Advanced Beginner Lesson 1 of 5
This is the first of five lessons for the advanced beginner class. At full capacity of ten students, there are 5 girls and 5 boys. The goal of this class is to teach children to swim the basic crawl stroke across the length of the pool.
On the first lesson of the advanced beginner, watch how the students are eased into the new techniques by refreshing the old ones from the beginner’s class. After refreshing the old techniques, watch how the students are transitioned to from the Beginner position on the Deluxe Kickboard™ to the Advanced Beginner position on the Deluxe Kickboard™. This progression will build on breathing and kicking skills that will help them when they put the boards away and swim independently.
Once across the pool, you will see a new exercise called spider position is introduced. You will see how Mr. Ed teaches the children about the spider position and how they blow bubbles down the “spider’s belly.” This exercise stretches the muscles in the back of the next getting the students used to putting their head down during swimming.
Finally, watch how Mr. Ed teaches the high and dry drill to the children. This is another exercise that is new to teach the students move their arms in a crawl stroke movement.
Key Points Taught:
–Bubbles for 5 seconds
–High and dry drill
–Kickboard across the pool, chin on speed button
